Auto-Layout
Auto-Layout tidies your whole model with one click, arranging the shapes into a clean, readable flow. You find it on the Arrange menu.
Arranging the model
Section titled “Arranging the model”Arrange ▸ Auto-Layout repositions every shape using the current layout algorithm, then fits the model to the window. To arrange in a particular direction, use Arrange ▸ Layout and pick Left to Right, Right to Left, Top to Bottom, or Bottom to Top. Left to Right places the most likely path straight across the top row, with less-used branches dropping below it.
Rearranging clears any line bends you have drawn by hand and re-picks the best side for each connector, so it is a single clean step you can undo.
Layout algorithm
Section titled “Layout algorithm”Arrange ▸ Algorithm chooses how shapes are packed into layers: ELK (Layered), the default, or Dagre (Layered). Both give a tidy layered flow, and the choice is saved with the model, so pick whichever reads best for your process.
Automatic routing
Section titled “Automatic routing”Connectors route themselves around your shapes as right-angle lines and re-route the moment you drag a shape. Arrange ▸ Routing settings opens a panel to tune this:
- Automatic Routing is on by default; turn it off to draw straight lines you bend by hand.
- Auto Best Side lets each connector choose which side of a shape to leave from.
- Split Edges Near Handle and Resolve Collisions keep parallel lines tidy and push overlapping shapes apart.
- Edge Rounding, Edge-to-Edge Spacing, Edge-to-Node Spacing, and Diagram Grid Size fine-tune the spacing and corners of the routed lines.
These are settings to experiment with as you work, and a Reset to defaults button restores them.
LegacyHow this worked in the previous version
One-Click Re-Layout is a feature in ProcessModel v6.2 designed to instantly organize and clean up the visual arrangement of your model. Whether you have just imported a process using Build AI or manually created a complex diagram, this tool automatically repositions shapes and routes to ensure an orthogonal, professional, and easy-to-read layout.
How to Use One-Click Re-Layout
Section titled “How to Use One-Click Re-Layout”You can access the re-layout tools directly from the main toolbar. There are two specific buttons available, allowing you to choose your preferred orientation:
-
Re-layout Left-to-Right (Horizontal Layout).
-
**Re-layout Top-to-Bottom **(Vertical Layout).
Re-Layout Modes
Section titled “Re-Layout Modes”The tool operates in two modes depending on what is currently selected on your layout:
-
Entire Document: If no objects are selected, clicking a re-layout button will reorganize the entire model.
-
Selected Objects: If you select a specific group of objects (activities and routes), the tool will only re-layout those selected items, leaving the rest of the model untouched.
Intelligent Features
Section titled “Intelligent Features”The Re-Layout tool does more than just move boxes; it includes intelligent logic to ensure your model structure remains valid:
-
Smart Routing: The macro identifies “backward routes” (feedback loops) that return to an earlier part of the process and redraws them cleanly to avoid clutter.
-
Auto-Termination: If the tool detects a route that is not attached to a destination activity, it will automatically add a “Terminal” shape (renamed to “Terminate”) at the end of the route and connect it, ensuring the model logic is complete .
-
Resource Protection: If your model includes resources that are not connected to the flow, the re-layout tool will not move them.
-
Undo Capability: If you are not satisfied with the new layout, you can simply use the standard Edit > Undo function to revert the changes.
