Educational Teaching Aids

Self-Teaching Booklet

This booklet was developed to serve both the professional and the educational market. For the business person, the booklet allows a new user to get started immediately using the ProcessModel software. For the student it quickly brings them to the level needed to study and analyze business and/or engineering processes.

While many business professionals will want to attend the training courses offered by ProcessModel, there is no reason to not get started right away. This booklet allows the user to get started immediately. Although the booklet is not required for the training courses, the more knowledge and skill one takes to the course the more they are able to absorb while there and take away with them. If one can get to the point where they are starting to develop their own model, then attend the course, the value of the training course will be that much greater.

In the education market this booklet can be used by the instructor to teach themselves ProcessModel. The instructor might choose to use ProcessModel in their lectures to demonstrate the application of simulation to business and/or engineering processes. If it is desired to have the student use ProcessModel themselves then the booklet can be used as a self-teaching tool to create turnkey lessons with little or no teacher preparation required.

In MBA classes, the author uses the booklet in the following way:

1. The students work through lessons 1-8 in three 2 ½-hour labs while the instructor is available to answer questions. Students prepare answers to all the questions in the lessons and turn in models Lesson 1 Step 5, Lesson 2, Lesson 3, Lesson 5b, and Lesson 6.

2. The instructor takes approximately two hours of class time and go through lessons 9 and 10 with the students.

3. The students work outside of class the rest of the semester to complete a project consisting of applying ProcessModel to a business process of their selection. The instructor takes some class time to get progress reports and to answer questions. The instructor also answers questions by e-mail.

4. At the end of the semester the student presents both a written and oral presentation to the owner of the business process.

Of course there are many alternatives which would reduce the class commitment to ProcessModel. By purchasing a student version of the software the students could be assigned to use their own computer and the booklet to teach themselves as homework. There are other alternatives that you can design. LeRoy is always available to help.

The overall purpose of the lessons in the self-teaching booklet is to provide the new user of ProcessModel with a clear introduction of the basic features of the software using sound pedagogy that emphasizes experiential learning.

Success Stories

ProcessModel has prepared some excellent short success stories that may be reviewed by clicking here.

Several student case studies are currently being prepared for this web site and will be available soon.

Qualified-Help Provider Inc. Case Material
Qualified-Help Provider Inc., a company providing highly skilled workers for light industrial, information technology, and finance/accounting assignments. The company had a process in place to accept perspective workers and to allow current workers to update their experience and education information. With the recent economic downturn QHP’s placement process had to make a complete reversal in direction. The number of requests for workers had been reduced by 40% while the number of calls from people seeking employment increased dramatically. Click here to download this case material in a zip file.

Full academic case studies are being solicited from academics and simulation consultants. These will also be available on the web site as they become available.

As these cases become available the long-term goal is to put together a business text which would consist of case studies, ProcessModel software, and the self-teaching booklet. Anyone who might be interested in participating in this project is encouraged to contact at academic@processmodel.com or 801-356-7165, option 5.
